A member’s role is the foundation of their account—it decides what they can reach in PSS. Every member must have at least one role, and you can give someone more than one (for example, an owner who also services pools might be all three).
The three roles are:
- Admin — full access to the account, including billing, settings, team management, and all work. Only an Admin can change a member’s Reporting Access (see 8.7) or take the Admin or Manager role away from someone. The member who created the account is the Admin (Owner), the only role that cannot simply be deleted (ownership must first be handed to another admin—see 8.12).
- Manager — runs day-to-day operations such as clients, scheduling, routes, jobs, invoicing, and the Team page itself, without the owner-level control over the account. A Manager can invite people and edit profiles, but cannot change Reporting Access and cannot remove the Admin or Manager role from a member.
- Technician — services pools in the field through the PSS mobile app. Adding the Technician role unlocks an extra set of field and scheduling settings on the profile (privileges, tech settings, payroll, and work capacity—see 8.8 through 8.11). A member who holds only the Technician role can still sign in to the web app, but lands on a limited technician page (their own visit summary, a link to download the mobile app, and their notifications) rather than the office screens.
Note: Roles are different from the Privileges in a technician’s profile (see 8.8). Roles decide which part of PSS a person can use; privileges fine-tune what a technician can do in the field. Some privileges only take effect for members whose only role is Technician—an Admin or Manager who also works in the field already has the wider access.
