Use Import Data → Catalog (dialog title Import Catalog Items (CSV)) to load your products and services. Sample file: sample-catalog-import.csv.
Columns, in order:
- Vendor — a vendor’s company name from your Vendors list (Section 17). Optional; an unknown vendor leaves the item without a vendor.
-
Item Type — the name of one of your invoice item types (e.g.
Product,Service). Required and must already exist. - Name — required.
- Description
- Quantity — required and cannot be 0.
- Unit Price
-
Is Taxed —
YES/blank. -
Is Track Inventory —
YESto track inventory for this item. - Inventory Count — a number; anything else becomes 0.
- Unit Cost — your cost. A new or changed unit cost also starts a new entry in the item’s unit-cost history, dated today.
- Item Number — SKU or UPC.
Duplicates: this is the one import that matches existing records by name. A row whose Item Type and Name both match an existing catalog item updates that item; otherwise a new item is created. There is no ID* column.
Note: If the item type name does not match one of your item types, the row fails with the message Item name or quantity is missing on row N — check the Item Type spelling as well as the name and quantity.
