The rest of the General tab controls how much of their account each client can reach. Everything here applies to all invited clients.
Left Navigation Items
Eight toggles, one per portal section: Home, Invoices, Payment, Payment Methods, Service History, Jobs, Properties, Work Requests.
- A section switched off disappears from the portal’s left sidebar.
- It is also blocked on the server, so a client who kept an old link or types the address cannot reach it.
- Switching Home off is allowed — clients then land on the first section that is switched on.
Note: Switching Jobs on does not put your whole schedule in front of clients. A job only appears in the portal once you send it to the client as a quote with Request client approval for this Job Quote? ticked in the Send Job Quote dialog. That same dialog carries the optional quote reminders, automatic draft job cancellation and quote expiration settings, all of which change what the client sees and for how long. See Section 3 — Jobs & Quotes. When a client approves or denies a quote, your office is notified through the Job Client Approved / Job Client Disapproved events (Section 9 — Notifications).
Note: Switching every section off leaves a client with nowhere to go. PSS shows them the portal shell with a message rather than an error page, but there is nothing for them to use — leave at least one section on.
Important: Payment, Payment Methods and Auto Pay need online payments connected before they do anything. Until then an amber warning sits under the toggles: “Payment, Payment Methods and Auto Pay will not work for your clients until your company connects Stripe.” with a link, Connect Stripe under Invoices › Configure › Online Payment. Switching the sections on is not enough — connect online payments first (see Section 6 — Invoicing), or clients reach a Payment Methods page that cannot load. The warning only shows while Payment or Payment Methods is switched on.
Display Options
Finer controls over what appears inside the sections you have enabled:
- Allow clients to set up Autopay — lets clients enrol in automatic payment themselves. Turning it off stops new signups; a client already enrolled can still opt out.
- Show job type — shows or hides the job type name and colour on jobs and visits.
- Show estimated job duration — shows or hides how long a job is expected to take.
- Show last service visit date column — adds that column to the client’s Properties table.
- Show last job visit date column — same, for the last completed job visit.
- Show manual payment notes — controls whether the notes your office types on a manual payment are visible. Notes on a payment the client made themselves in the portal are always visible to them.
Brand colors
Two colours carry your branding through the whole portal.
- Primary Color — the left navigation, buttons, links and accents.
- Secondary Color — section titles and headings.
- Each is a hex value (for example
#3362ADand#ABDE49), set from the swatch beside the field or typed in directly. - PSS warns you to use darker shades to ensure readable contrast on white backgrounds — a pale secondary colour makes every heading in the portal hard to read.
- The colours apply the moment you Save; a client sees them on their next page load. They do not affect your PSS web app, only the portal.
Tip: Use the same two colours as your logo and your invoices. Clients arrive at the portal from an email you sent them, and matching colours make it obvious they are in the right place. Preview portal at the foot of the tab is the quickest way to check them.
Click Save at the foot of the tab to apply any of the above.
Note: One thing clients may see in the portal is not configured here. If Client Reviews is switched on under Settings → Client Reviews (Section 13 — Settings), the portal’s visit details and invoice preview show your rating question with three emoji, and a client can leave a one-tap rating (29.8). Turn it off there to hide it.
