Two of the actions on the Portal Access tab (21.10) change what a client sees rather than locking them out. In both cases the client can still sign in with the same password.
Disabled
An amber notice appears at the foot of the navigation: “Your portal profile has been disabled. You can still pay your invoices and view history.”
- Every section the client could reach before is still reachable, and the navigation looks normal apart from the notice.
- They can still pay invoices, and add or change payment methods, so an outstanding bill can be settled.
- They cannot create or change anything else — no new work requests, no file uploads, no approving or denying jobs.
The controls that would do those things are visibly greyed out, not hidden, and each screen says why. On the Work Requests page New Work Request is inert and a line beneath the page title reads “Your portal profile has been disabled, so this can no longer be changed.”
The Jobs page carries the same line, and the Approve and Deny buttons in the Actions column are greyed — as are the same pair inside the job detail panel. Hovering any of these controls shows the reason as a tooltip.
- The client is told before filling anything in, rather than after pressing Send.
- If you disable a client while they have the portal open, the page notices on its next request and the controls go inert there and then. A request form they had already started stays open with what they typed — it simply cannot be sent, and says so.
- What they see is frozen at the moment you disabled them: jobs, properties, work requests and service visits created afterwards do not appear. Invoices and payments have no such cut-off, so a bill raised later is still visible and still payable.
- Their Profile page (29.12) still works, so they can still change their own password or login email.
Revoked
Only Home is reachable, and Home shows a notice in place of the client’s records: “You no longer have access to the portal for this company. Please contact your service provider in case of any questions.”
- Every other entry in the navigation is greyed out and cannot be clicked, and typing another section’s address does not get round it — the server refuses those requests too.
- Your About Us panel stays, since it is your own published content rather than the client’s data.
- Their Profile page (29.12) still works, and so does the account picker if they have more than one record with you — a revoked profile has to be able to switch back to one that still works.
Note: Revoking is the only action that frees a client slot on your plan (21.6). Reactivating either state is a single click on the Portal Access tab, and the client keeps the password they already set — they do not need a new invitation.
